EUE/Screen Gems to build additional Lakewood studio lot
ATLwood continues to boom as Lakewood Studios announces plans to add another soundstage.
At a time when our national economy is just lazing around like a big, blubbery lump, Atlanta's film industry continues to boom. This morning, Sep. 21, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and other elected officials joined EUE/Screen Gems COO Chris Cooney, who announced plans to build another new soundstage on the Lakewood Studio Lot. The new addition, "Stage 6," will be a 30,000 square foot soundstage divided for two productions that will allow Lakewood's studios to host up to seven different productions at one time. As per the press release:
“We are grateful to be a part of the thriving film industry in this great city. The business here is flourishing, due to Georgia’s film incentive and the support of The City of Atlanta. We are pleased to partner with Mayor Reed and be part of his vision of economic development and opportunity. Stage 6 will be finished in February, 2012, just in time for the television pilot season,” said Chris Cooney.
