Art Papers Live! and Emory University have teamed up to bring installation and performance-based artist Sanford Biggers to Atlanta.

Tonight, Sanford Biggers presents a performance piece with the help of the Brotherhood of Afrocentric Men (an Emory-based African-American dance group) and Skeleton Crew (Emory's break dancing group) performing on Biggers' installation floor piece, "Mandala of the B-Bodhisattva II." Following the performance, Biggers will hold an artist's talk at 7:30 p.m. and speak about his most recent exhibitions and a film project he completed titled "Shake" that was shot entirely in Brazil.

Biggers, who was raised in Los Angeles and is lives in New York, received his Bachelor's degree from Morehouse College. Biggers explores the African-American experience and culture, elements of hip-hop, Buddhism, and the culture and icons that make up America. Biggers often incorporates performance into his work, and frequently includes music — he is an avid piano player.

Tomorrow Biggers will direct an artist peer learning session in the Visual Arts Building at Emory. This event is free and open only to students and artists and will provide insight into Biggers' artistic process.

Biggers' work will be on display at Emory thru April 15.
