Greg Mike makes pyramids and soda cans cool again

A live art pyramid at Camp Bisco and a collaboration with Dr. Pepper make for some enterprising artistry

We might have forgotten how to build pyramids, but we apparently haven’t forgotten how to paint them.

Atlanta artist, designer, and ABV gallery owner Greg Mike debuted the ABV Live Art Pyramid last month at Camp Bisco. Besides featuring some of the biggest acts in electro music, the annual festival staged outside Albany, N.Y., featured the contributions of 12 visual artists, including Mike and fellow Atlanta artist Peter Ferrari. Over three days, they hand-painted their works onto the multi-level installation which stood over 30 feet tall and included external walls and an interior art gallery and lounge.

The best part of the recap video comes near the halfway point when a festivalgoer assesses the art pyramid with a WTF facial expression. (When completed, it bears a slight resemblance to that Apollo spacecraft Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin used to land on the moon back in 1969 - if you believe in that sort of thing.)

Greg Mike recently unveiled a limited-edition collaboration with Dr. Pepper, too, in which he was one of eight selected artists/brands to redesign a Dr. Pepper can. Using the soda brand’s signature colors, he transformed the can into one of his MADCAN designs. Whether you’re into sugary drinks or not (no shots, Bloomberg), it’s an example of the right way for brand marketers and coolhunters to engage with creative consumers. Take notes, McDonald’s.
