Creative Loafing nominated for six Association of Alternative Newsmedia Awards
Nods for Fresh Loaf, longform news writing, arts criticism, and more
We're celebrating Downtown at the CL offices! Today the Association of Alternative Newsmedia announced nominees for its annual awards and your hometown alt has been nominated for six. Seventy publications submitted 821 entries for consideration this year.
Creative Loafing contributor Curt Holman received a nomination in the arts criticism category for his film reviews "Death stalks the sexually active in ‘It Follows,’" "Jake Gyllenhaal gives knockout performance in manipulative 'Southpaw,'" and "Females are strong as hell: How a greater conversation about gender played out in movies and TV in 2015." Former Staff Writer Max Blau's deep dive into metro Atlanta's fatal police shootings "Unanswered" received a nomination for Longform News Story. Our design team led by Art Director Wes Duvall and graphic designer Rachel Hortman were nominated for their outstanding cover designs (see above), including one in collaboration with local artist and graphic designer Walter Heape for our 2015 Pride Issue. Longtime Blotter illustrator Tray Butler got a nod for his fine work in our annual Best of the Blotter Issue. Fresh Loaf is again nominated for Staff Blog and the 2015 Food Issue is nominated in the Innovation/Format Buster category.
CL sister papers the Nashville Scene (6), Washington City Paper (5), Cincinnati CityBeat (3), The Pitch (2), Creative Loafing Tampa (1) also received nominations in categories including Race Reporting, Music Writing, Columns, Editorial Layout, and more. Winners will be announced July 9 at AAN's annual conference taking place this year in Austin, Texas.
