Omnivore - Deadwood Saloon opens on 12th Street

A little bit of South Dakota in Midtown

Image The newest bar in Midtown is Deadwood Saloon (66 12th St., 404-671-4290). Its website describes it this way:

Created in the true spirit of the 1800s gold mining community of Deadwood, South Dakota, we’ve tried to capture the essence of this piece of Americana with a unique restaurant atmosphere featurin’ fresh, fire-grilled foods and good times.

I’ve visited once and ordered this plate of two country-fried pork chops, mashed potatoes and broccoli — lots of broccoli. The pork chops would have tasted pretty good had the kitchen not used an unbelievable amount of salt. We also ordered half a barbecued chicken breast that tasted better.

I asked the server at the end of our meal what desserts were available. “I don’t think we have any,” she said.

A moment of silence followed. “Okay, we’ll have the check,” I said.
