Omnivore - Las Palmeras: a fave for comfort food

Get the masitas de puerco

I hit one of my favorites for comfort food last night, Las Palmeras (368 5th St, 404-872-0846), where I’ve been enjoying the Cuban food for many years. I’ve written about it before, but I can’t recommend it enough if you’re into home-style Cuban cooking.

This is my favorite dish, the masitas de puerco, chunks of tender pork with a crispy exterior. They’re topped with oniony mojo sauce and served with two sides. I always get the moros (black beans and rice cooked together) and the fried yuca. Wayne always gets the fried chicken.

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Saturday. I still regard it as the best Cuban food in the city.
