Quick Bites: Double Dragon debuts in Oakhurst, CO opens in Poncey-Highland, Upbeet comes to Westside and more

Michael Lo and George Yu (Taiyo Ramen, Suzy Siu's Baos) have opened their newest concept, Double Dragon in Oakhurst (350 Mead Rd.). The restaurant serves Americanized Chinese classics, Cantonese and Sichuan dishes. Dinner service has begun and takeout, delivery and lunch service is expected to start soon.



CO, a Southeast Asian-inspired restaurant chain with locations in Charleston, Savannah, Myrtle Beach and Charlotte, opened its first Atlanta location at 675 N. Highland Ave. N.E. yesterday. The restaurant's name means "feast" in Vietnamese. Led by Japanese-born chef Masanori Shiraishi, CO will serve items like banh mi, curry laksa and beef pho. Lunch service starts Friday and a beverage program will launch later this month.

Ponce City Market's City Winery has a cool new monthly book club series with beverage pairings like this month's Black Shadow. June's book selection is Neil Gaiman's American Gods. A discussion will take place on Tues., June 20 from 7-9 p.m. at PSM's Posman Books, where books are for purchase.

Yeah! Burger sister restaurant Upbeet is set to open June 10 in Westside (1071 Howell Mill Rd.). The health-conscious, Southern California-inspired fast-casual restaurant will feature sustainable, organic, vegan and vegetarian options as well as kombucha, cold pressed juices, yogurt bowls, raw protein bars and local beer.

Radio Roasters, the Decatur-based coffee company which sources and roasts single origin beans, is the official coffee roaster for Emory University's Grounds for Empowerment. The three-year incubation program, run by Emory's Goizueta Business School, aims to support and empower women specialty coffee growers around the world. GFE will roast and sell 750 pounds of beans from each GFE grower and sell varieties for purchase online at www.groundsforempowerment.org.

Austell welcome new BBQ spot Bobby Donald's Barbeque (3801 Austell Rd.), set to open June 17. The takeout spot is described as "traditional BBQ with a gourmet spin" in a press release and serves a "sauce unlike any you have ever had" combining the barbeque regions of Florida, Louisiana, Kansas City, North Carolina, Texas and Hawaii.

Texas-based ooey gooey cookie concept Tiff's Treats is opening a Cumberland location to celebrate its one-year Atlanta anniversary. The 29th store opens June 10 (other locations are in Alpharetta, Perimeter, and Midtown) at 3051 Akers Mill Rd. In honor of the Peach State, all stores will offer a special peach cobbler cookie for one week.
