Electronic producer Elysia Crampton’s albums are better thought of as little worlds, each with its own unique logic. On last year’s American Drift, her mesmerizing four-song debut, Crampton tied together various styles from skittering trap rhythms to cerebral spoken word mantras. Her genre-defying music serves as a vivid pastiche of varied influences and experiences. Elysia Crampton Presents: Demon City, her latest release, further explores her distinctive use of haunted samples, shifting synthesizers, and 808-inspired percussion. On standout song “Irreducible Horizon,” she threads ominous melodies through glitchy textures, reminiscent of equally singular musicians such as Holly Herndon and Oneohtrix Point Never.
