FIVE DECADES OF WREK: Yukons are one of many acts playing WREKtacular 2018.

The 100,000 watt student voice of Georgia Tech, 91.1 FM/WREK celebrates 50 years of broadcasting extremely eclectic programming April 6-7. Be it the Wednesday night noise excursions with “Destroy All Music,” Joe Bussard’s Friday evening Country Classics, or the Saturday night “EDM Soundsystem,” WREK’s tagline boasts “Quality, Diverse Programming,” and the kids mean it. “WREK is important because it has a history of musical involvement in Atlanta,” says Danielle Dollar who plays in post-punk trio yukons (pictured above). “The station showcases and provides a platform for local bands and musicians which is cool and appreciated.”

After five decades on the air, the annual WREKtacular hosts two nights of local music and arts at the Bakery. “Yukons is stoked to be apart of this year’s WREKtacular, playing alongside some of our favorite Atlanta artists and friends,” Dollar adds.

Both nights feature performances by a variety of local outfits and visual artists. Groups such as OMNI, Elf Power, Ethereal, Chew, Pylon Reenactment Society, reunited rockers BOB, and more head up a stacked bill that has assembled to honor WREK’s legacy.

BONUS: The first 150 Georgia Tech students get in free if they RSVP via Facebook. Everyone else can pay the man.

Also, it’s important to note that the WREKtacular fest has been moved to the Bakery in Adair Park/Oakland City.

$14 (one day pass). $22 (weekend pass). 6 p.m. (both nights). April 6-7. The Bakery 825 Warner St. SW. thebakeryatlanta.com.
