Tracy Woodard, violinist and organizer behind Atlanta-based avant-garde chamber music ensemble Cantos Y Cuentos, describes Con Moto as “‘Iron Chef’ for musicians.”
Con Moto, Italian for “with movement,” couples an open panel discussion on May 17 with a concert featuring three newly composed works for dance accompaniment on May 19. Both events take place on the second floor of the M. Rich Building Downtown.
Saturday’s concert program features the Atlanta Contemporary Ensemble, conducted by Amy Wilson, performing works by Susan Clearman, Anthony Green, and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra bassist Michael Kurth. Each performance will also include the Sukha Artists dance company interpreting choreography by Tricia Froedge. “We gave the composers a secret ingredient,” Woodard says. “You have to write music for dancers, and they dished out these amazing works.”
The ACE’s lineup features Bora Moon (clarinet), Matthieu Clavé (flute), Caleb Herron (percussion), Martha Oceguera (viola), Katie Gardner Otwell (violin), and Ben Shirley (cello).
