Atlanta corruption ties to Dekalb County corruption
News Headlines March 8, 2019
An indictment this week by the US Attorney’s office against Jeff Jafari brought some new attention to the long simmering corruption probe of Atlanta’s City Hall. The Feds brought a 51 count indictment against Jafari with a variety of fraud and bribery charges, seemingly tying the corruption cases focused on Atlanta back to the legacy corruption cases in Dekalb County from 2014.
Jafari has been a contractor to the Airport and to Atlanta’s Water Department. His indictment brings into the spotlight the former Chief Purchasing Officer for the City, Adam Smith, who pled guilty to 2017 charges and is currently serving his sentence.
Jafari, through his lawyer, Steve Sadow, said his client is innocent and will fight the charges.
