My friend and Sacred Thread Yoga owner, Annelise Leal, brings 90-minute gatherings honoring the moons, right to your living room! In June, Prince is the theme under the Strawberry Moon. In July, y’all!, it’ll be a Sade evening honoring the Thunder Moon. Don’t you just love being all privately spiritual and shit right from your home mat — or couch?

ABV Gallery is killing it with the 2020 version of their popular Drink and Doodle event series. Typically, the kewl kidz gather monthly at ABV in Studioplex on the Eastside BeltLine to hang out and watch artists doodle. Anyone in the room can bid on the doodles once completed. Naturally, this gathering has moved online.

A perk of the shutdowns? Drink and Doodle is now twice a month with one night being international. The quarantine company I keep likes to throw the show up on a projector. Add speakers, bc music is fresh. Great if you’re over watching old concerts or subpar Netflix stand-ups. The art is typically affordable, so just bid already!

Naturally, this gathering has moved online.

A perk of the shutdowns? Drink and Doodle is now twice a month with one night being international. The quarantine company I keep likes to throw the show up on a projector. Add speakers, bc music is fresh. Great if you’re over watching old concerts or subpar Netflix stand-ups. The art is typically affordable, so just bid already!

The first call I make when I want to know how to be of service in the communities that need it most is to Activist and Community Leader Liliana Bakhtiari. Think your volunteer hours are impressive? Bakhtiari’s life commitment to public service is GOALS.

During the pandemic, Bakhtiari immediately activated help for Atlanta’s senior community asking for donations for Branan Towers, a high-rise for senior citizens in East Atlanta Village. You can drop off Branan Towers donations — food, cleaning supplies, art activities, puzzles, books, used/refurbished electronics, gift cards, and letters —  at the Argosy take-out table, Wednesday through Sunday, between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Bakhtiari is also working as the Homeless Emergency Response Coordinator at Partners for HOME. Partners for HOME is a compassionate community innovating a robust approach to homelessness in Atlanta. Meal Bridge is an Atlanta-based mission to feed frontline healthcare workers, while simultaneously generating biz for local restaurants. But local restaurants aren’t hogging all the profits: “For every single meal you order from Osteria, Doc Chey’s, or Dragon Bowl for our brave healthcare professionals via The Meal Bridge, we will donate nine more meals to the Atlanta Community Food Bank that will allow them to feed hungry children, hardworking families, or struggling seniors.” Barely more than a month into the pandemic, 1,084 meals have been delivered to hospitals, thus raising enough to feed 9,756 food-insecure neighbors. www.themealbridge.com

The Atlanta Guys Dinner Group (#AGDG) is a group of guys who get together once a month to break bread, socialize, and give back to the Atlanta community. They created a pantry drive and are putting bags together for restaurant workers and others from the culinary industry who are currently without. They have also raised funds for Atlanta Family Meal and are collecting nonperishable items if you’re able to donate.

Have a pet? I recently made an appointment with local animal communicator, Lauren Kinney. Animal communication uses telepathy, something Kinney says all humans are born with but lose once the verbal communication takes over, to chat with your furry roommates.

Even if she just got lucky, the call lifted spirits in our tiny home. Kinney is currently talking to pets for FREE to gain accreditation hours. Are you even twitching yet, Karen? Twitch.tv, a social media platform originally intended for gamers, is now being used to stream events during coronavirus.

We asked Wussy Mag creator Jon Dean, “Why not just stick with Facebook or Zoom?” Dean responded, “It’s just the best quality for mixing live stream in from multiple sources with pre-recorded content.” Wussy Mag, with Southern Fried Queer Pride, streamed their event “Big Ass Telethon to End Metronormativity,” Saturday, April 25 on Twitch.tv. The telethon raised money for rural, queer artists and performers and featured my fav local drag performers Brigitte Bidet and Ella/saurus/REX. Nashville band Thelma & the Sleaze, international pop star Lance Bass, and Netflix comedians Fortune Feimster and Whitney Cummings all made appearances that likely wouldn’t have been possible pre shelter in place.

Shibori, Shibari — Let’s tie the whole thing off:
Getting crafty on The Move! Shibori is the ancient Japanese art of folding, tying, then dying fabric to create a tie-dye like pattern. I tried this technique during quarantine, only to learn RIT fabric dye for synthetics doesn’t actually dye polyester as promised. Friends who stuck with more absorbable fabs, like cotton, have dyed beautiful things. Try shibori with you, yourself, and you while staying home.

Shibari is the Japanese form of bondage art, aka kinbaku. So maybe I haven’t actually practiced tying up another human yet, but I am getting pretty stellar at macramé, which is just as knotty. I’ve learned so many twists and ties and have acquired enough rope to make the kink community jelly. Macramé is a solo project. If you have a quarantine partner, try for shibari.

WEED Rx:
I’d like to re-thank Kwanza Hall and all the Atlanta City Council members who unanimously voted to decriminalize under an ounce of grass in 2017. And with cops not having testing kits to analyze the difference between CBD/THC, there’s a good chance you can drop the paranoia in 2020. Lawd knows we need Mary Jane more than ever right now.

In the good ole days, The Move intended to get your calendars amped for what’s to come. But that was way back in Q1 of this year. Now that most of us would agree our lives can change at the drop of cough droplets, writing a futuristic events column...well maybe not. Instead, like a true cowgirl, she’s doing things in reverse. Here’s what she’s seen, virtually attended, watched, and created during COVID-19. If you read about an event you like, look ‘em up. They will probably have more parties. Plus, ways you can help good ppl doing some good sh*t.

A shoutout to the do-gooders, and how to join them:

The first call I make when I want to know how to be of service in the communities that need it most is to Activist and Community Leader Liliana Bakhtiari. Think your volunteer hours are impressive? Bakhtiari’s life commitment to public service is GOALS.

During the pandemic, Bakhtiari immediately activated help for Atlanta’s senior community asking for donations for Branan Towers, a high-rise for senior citizens in East Atlanta Village. You can drop off Branan Towers donations — food, cleaning supplies, art activities, puzzles, books, used/refurbished electronics, gift cards, and letters —  at the Argosy take-out table, Wednesday through Sunday, between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Bakhtiari is also working as the Homeless Emergency Response Coordinator at Partners for HOME. Partners for HOME is a compassionate community innovating a robust approach to homelessness in Atlanta. Meal Bridge is an Atlanta-based mission to feed frontline healthcare workers, while simultaneously generating biz for local restaurants. But local restaurants aren’t hogging all the profits: “For every single meal you order from Osteria, Doc Chey’s, or Dragon Bowl for our brave healthcare professionals via The Meal Bridge, we will donate nine more meals to the Atlanta Community Food Bank that will allow them to feed hungry children, hardworking families, or struggling seniors.” Barely more than a month into the pandemic, 1,084 meals have been delivered to hospitals, thus raising enough to feed 9,756 food-insecure neighbors. www.themealbridge.com

The Atlanta Guys Dinner Group (#AGDG) is a group of guys who get together once a month to break bread, socialize, and give back to the Atlanta community. They created a pantry drive and are putting bags together for restaurant workers and others from the culinary industry who are currently without. They have also raised funds for Atlanta Family Meal and are collecting nonperishable items if you’re able to donate.

Have a pet? I recently made an appointment with local animal communicator, Lauren Kinney. Animal communication uses telepathy, something Kinney says all humans are born with but lose once the verbal communication takes over, to chat with your furry roommates.

Kinney had a convo with Poncey, my seven-year-old bulldog and codependent bestie, via phone. Even if she just got lucky, the call lifted spirits in our tiny home. Kinney is currently talking to pets for FREE to gain accreditation hours. Are you even twitching yet, Karen? Twitch.tv, a social media platform originally intended for gamers, is now being used to stream events during coronavirus.

We asked Wussy Mag creator Jon Dean, “Why not just stick with Facebook or Zoom?” Dean responded, “It’s just the best quality for mixing live stream in from multiple sources with pre-recorded content.” Wussy Mag, with Southern Fried Queer Pride, streamed their event “Big Ass Telethon to End Metronormativity,” Saturday, April 25 on Twitch.tv. The telethon raised money for rural, queer artists and performers and featured my fav local drag performers Brigitte Bidet and Ella/saurus/REX. Nashville band Thelma & the Sleaze, international pop star Lance Bass, and Netflix comedians Fortune Feimster and Whitney Cummings all made appearances that likely wouldn’t have been possible pre shelter in place.

Shibori, Shibari — Let’s tie the whole thing off:
Getting crafty on The Move! Shibori is the ancient Japanese art of folding, tying, then dying fabric to create a tie-dye like pattern. I tried this technique during quarantine, only to learn RIT fabric dye for synthetics doesn’t actually dye polyester as promised. Friends who stuck with more absorbable fabs, like cotton, have dyed beautiful things. Try shibori with you, yourself, and you while staying home.

Shibari is the Japanese form of bondage art, aka kinbaku. So maybe I haven’t actually practiced tying up another human yet, but I am getting pretty stellar at macramé, which is just as knotty. I’ve learned so many twists and ties and have acquired enough rope to make the kink community jelly. Macramé is a solo project. If you have a quarantine partner, try for shibari.

WEED Rx:
I’d like to re-thank Kwanza Hall and all the Atlanta City Council members who unanimously voted to decriminalize under an ounce of grass in 2017. And with cops not having testing kits to analyze the difference between CBD/THC, there’s a good chance you can drop the paranoia in 2020. Lawd knows we need Mary Jane more than ever right now.

CLUB QUARANTINE and other ways to dance during a pandemic:
The Move is always to dance. I even have a tattoo dedicated to the verb. Perhaps we can’t risk sharing sweat droplets with strangers right now, but social-distance dance parties are popping up everywhere.

It’s taken no time for the dance community to take the raves online during an international crisis. Artists from Toronto take their all-inclusive, queer dance party, Club Quarantine, online for the masses nightly using Zoom codes.

Party in your bathtub. Lose track of time. Don’t be self-conscious, wake your subconscious, without having to leave your house. Go ahead and get all dressed up, honey, bc you’ve got a website to get to!

If you keep up with The Move, you know she is plant-obsessed! Here’s a makeover for those basic planters your last neighbor left behind. Easy, customizable sex pot created by you! Copy and paste are not just keys on your computer. Using Creative Loafing print ads, cut, place, and paste on pottery or furniture of choice, then Modge Podge over them for instant art, aka decoupage. I splattered and sprayed some paint and glitter for accents. To keep with the “sex pot” theme, use the adult ads in the back of this newspaper.** Or try six-time Golden Globe actor Laura Dern’s face for a “Dern fern” piece, pictured.

DIY: Perfect Another Language

Travel plans canceled? Naw. You just got more time to practice your language skills. Personally, I’ll be re-learning Russian to make up for my lack of studying in St. Petersburg many white nights ago.

Between YouTube, smartphone apps, and streaming channels GALORE, you could come out of COVID-19 speaking sign language! My Roku streaming stick, just like your Chrome Fire stick or Apple TV, offers entire channels dedicated to a single language. How about ordering that lengua taco in the bull’s native tongue by the time you scarf down your next Mexican meal in public?

Stay home and Make a Bolo Tie


I made a bolo tie, once I realized a good bolo tie is tough to find outside of the Southwest and can be limited in design. Fun Fact! A bolo tie is the official state neckwear of New Mexico. (My findings for Georgia’s official neckwear, inconclusive.)

A good bolo tie is rugged yet refined, and pretty easy to make. Don’t take my advice, take YouTube’s! Google “How to make a bolo tie” for a swarm of quick and easy ways to create the base of your bolo, but let your designs sprawl outside the box if it feels right. Add a favorite patch or some pom-poms vs a turquoise gem.

Just think, nearly 100 years ago, a Native-American with a silver-clasped bandana gave a cowboy silversmith the idea for adding his leather hat string, then calling it a bolo tie. A practical thought, turned fashion. Your incubation time could hatch great things for the runway, my friends.

How to Keep Music Alive During a Crisis


Keep streaming. Vinyl, CD, and cassette friends, come up to the airwaves and listen local, or subscribe to a music streaming service that pays the artists appropriately. Or buy the music outright. Yes, that’s still a thing! Don’t want to listen to music 24/7? Support your favorite small artists by playing their songs on repeat, even if you mute it. Plays pay bills.

Don’t Wait for a Sign, Make One

Are you a political activist or slacktivist? Take a listen to Hidden Brain wherever you listen to podcasts. Specifically, the episode titled, “Passion Isn’t Enough,” with political scientist Eitan Hersh. Hersh talks about the study of “political hobbyism” and how the US currently treats politics more like sports entertainment.

If you find yourself in the political slacktivist category, like most, it’s a great time to make a sign supporting your candidates for all the upcoming elections. Don’t wait until May or November. Take that sign out to the street, keeping over six feet away from passing humans, and hold it up high for your neighbors and traffic to see. I promise it’s way more invigorating than a one-click Facebook share.

This downtime is a great chance to call your representatives and political candidates vying for their position, even if it’s just to introduce yourself and your priorities. Film and Tube Time

Here’s what I’m watching during an international crisis. If I ain’t learning something or solving a murder, I’m likely not streaming it. Naturally, I watch Outbreak the day we hit a pandemic state in the U.S., to learn what not to do. Kevin Spacey gives off a particularly great creep vibe, per usual.

Upbeat and super motivational Hulu original programming “Making It” is just good for the whole fam jam fun. Nick Offerman and Amy Poehler, of Parks and Rec, bring notes of the warm and fuzzies as hosts of this craft challenge for the masters. In only a few hours, these makers create a mailbox that shreds bills, a dog house with edible wallpaper, and a photobooth that can fly — all with more puns than my little heart can love.

A&E’s docuseries “The Many Faces of Jane” follows 28-year-old Jane Hart in her daily life as a mother of two young children and to her thrice-weekly intensive therapy sessions for dissociative personality disorder (previously known as multiple personality disorder). Hart’s personalities are each derived from a different age in her life when trauma and abuse occurred. I know you have a million questions, and I am not a doctor, yet, so just go watch it. I streamed on Hulu.

Film of 2019 IMO, was GREENER GRASS. Comedy meets horror in timeless suburbia where everyone wears braces on straight teeth, and matching tertiary wardrobes, and golf carts glide nicely along with music from composer Samuel Nobles. Dawn Luebbe and Jocelyn DeBoer star and direct in a story of jealousy and murder in this irrational masterpiece with strong David Lynch vibes. Either you’ll get it, or you won’t. Either way, you’ll feel awkward.

Other TV listings include Kamp Kenan for reptile curiosities; Yarn TV, a crochet channel; and, not a series, but yes a channel dedicated to making your own soap (DIY Soapmaking). All streaming on Roku, and probably elsewhere.

I made a bolo tie, once I realized a good bolo tie is tough to find outside of the Southwest and can be limited in design. Fun Fact! A bolo tie is the official state neckwear of New Mexico. (My findings for Georgia’s official neckwear, inconclusive.)

A good bolo tie is rugged yet refined, and pretty easy to make. Don’t take my advice, take YouTube’s! Google “How to make a bolo tie” for a swarm of quick and easy ways to create the base of your bolo, but let your designs sprawl outside the box if it feels right. Add a favorite patch or some pom-poms vs a turquoise gem.

Just think, nearly 100 years ago, a Native-American with a silver-clasped bandana gave a cowboy silversmith the idea for adding his leather hat string, then calling it a bolo tie. A practical thought, turned fashion. Your incubation time could hatch great things for the runway, my friends.

Upbeat and super motivational Hulu original programming “Making It” is just good for the whole fam jam fun. Nick Offerman and Amy Poehler, of Parks and Rec, bring notes of the warm and fuzzies as hosts of this craft challenge for the masters. In only a few hours, these makers create a mailbox that shreds bills, a dog house with edible wallpaper, and a photobooth that can fly — all with more puns than my little heart can love.

A&E’s docuseries “The Many Faces of Jane” follows 28-year-old Jane Hart in her daily life as a mother of two young children and to her thrice-weekly intensive therapy sessions for dissociative personality disorder (previously known as multiple personality disorder). Hart’s personalities are each derived from a different age in her life when trauma and abuse occurred. I know you have a million questions, and I am not a doctor, yet, so just go watch it. I streamed on Hulu.

Film of 2019 IMO, was __GREENER GRASS__. Comedy meets horror in timeless suburbia where everyone wears braces on straight teeth, and matching tertiary wardrobes, and golf carts glide nicely along with music from composer Samuel Nobles. Dawn Luebbe and Jocelyn DeBoer star and direct in a story of jealousy and murder in this irrational masterpiece with strong David Lynch vibes. Either you’ll get it, or you won’t. Either way, you’ll feel awkward.
