NEWS BRIEF: Rental assistance funds scarcely used in Georgia, feds say

Emergency Rental Assistance not tapped

Millions of dollars provided to Georgia by the U.S. Treasury’s Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program have barely been spent, according to federal government data released on Monday, and may have to be returned. The Georgia Department of Community Affairs has paid out only $47 million — 9 percent — to struggling tenants and landlords out of the $552 million designated to the state by the Treasury Department. In order for ERA grantees to keep their funds and be eligible for more, a 30 percent threshold should have been met by Sept. 30. atlantaciviccircle.org
