Metro Atlantans with ties to Ukraine are doing everything they can to support their beleaguered country during the current crisis. Atlanta for Ukraine, a website created by Svetlana Lechtchenko, has checkpoints around the city to gather dry food, clothing, and other supplies. At least 20 tons have been collected so far; the items sorted and sent to Savannah to be shipped abroad.

Additionally, Facebook groups are sharing information and resources; DeKalb resident Olga Westfall has been moderating the pages for Ukrainian Community of Atlanta (1.9k members), Support Ukraine, Ukrainians in USA (24k members), and Praying for Ukraine (6k members).

Both Westfall and Lechtchenko say they’re grateful for the support that’s been pouring in. “The people there have it inside of their blood to be free and they never will give (up) this freedom,” said Lechtchenko. mdjonline.com
