NEWS BRIEF: Suggestions welcome for future of Gwinnett Place Mall
Moribund mall needs new lease on life
County officials are seeking input from the public on what to do with the moribund Gwinnett Place Mall, acquired last year for $23 million from a developer that failed to deliver on its promises.
The 39-acre property on Pleasant Hill Road is the subject of a revitalization strategy dubbed “Gwinnett Place to Be” and locals are being asked to choose between having a mixed-use town center or a cultural district. Both concepts call for creating a centralized park and demolishing the existing mall, with the exception of big-box spaces and parking lots; both would have residences, offices, retail and about 16 acres of parks and bike paths, as well as a transit hub.
