Heck House lacks a business license

The quirky Heck House center for artists in Scottdale is having to shut its doors temporarily after DeKalb officials determined it lacks a proper business license. The county’s code enforcement office said Heck House needs to be in compliance with commercial and residential codes and must be inspected before it can be “safe for any type of assembly.”

The venue cannot host “any events until the application process is complete and approved by DeKalb County,” wrote officer Timothy Hardy in an email to Heck House. Off-street parking requirements also must be met, he said.

The colorful Ponce De Leon spot between a junkyard and a tattoo parlor has been home to concerts, gallery shows, weddings, religious retreats, stand up comedy, puppet shows, a storytelling open mic and a burlesque revue. Details: ajc.com
