NEWS BRIEF: Mental health advocacy group throwing back-to-school block party
Get ready for the new school year
A back-to-school block party intended to raise awareness of mental health in the Black community has been announced for this month in Atlanta. Hosted by the Confess Project advocacy group, the event is happening on Sunday, July 31, from 12 noon to 5 p.m. at 320 Sunset Avenue NW, and aims to support students by providing school supplies, backpacks and haircuts ahead of the new school year, a press release noted.
“A lack of access to school supplies or even a fresh haircut can be a detriment to a child’s self-esteem, which has the potential to greatly impact their future success,” said Confess Project CEO Dontay Williams. “As mental health gatekeepers, and an organization that recently established new headquarters in the city of Atlanta, we want to create a space where we can give back to the community and help steer the path for the next generation.” Details: theconfessproject.com
