NEWS BRIEF: Delta whistleblower reaches settlement with airline
Federal arbiter agrees with Karlene Petitt
A Delta Air Lines pilot who said she was barred from flying in retaliation for raising safety issues has reached a settlement with the carrier. Karlene Petitt claimed airline executives forced her to undergo a psychiatric examination after she warned about pilots being forced to fly when they were fatigued, gaps in training, falsification of training records, and other issues, The Atlanta Voice reports. A federal arbiter agreed with Petitt’s claims and said Delta failed to show any flaws in her ability to fly a plane, adding that the pilot merited $500,000 to compensate for damage to her career.
