Five critically-acclaimed Greek films to showcase at the Tara Theatre
The Atlanta Greek Film Expo, a mainstay in the Atlanta Greek community’s cultural calendar, announces its ninth annual event. Known for its dedication to showcasing contemporary Greek cinema, this year’s Expo will feature five films, all in Greek with English subtitles, celebrating the rich storytelling and artistic talent of modern Greek filmmakers.

Little Things That Went Wrong
A comedic drama that juxtaposes the lives of two fathers. One is a former TV celebrity, spiraling out of control as he desperately seeks to win back the love of his estranged young daughter. The other, smug and outwardly successful, is blind to the cracks in his marriage and career. Their worlds collide in a series of darkly funny and poignant moments, revealing the depths of each man’s emotional turmoil. Little Things That Went Wrong is a clever and touching exploration of fatherhood, failure, and redemption.

The Crossing — (Bonus short presented prior to feature film)
In a desolate location, there’s a railroad crossing. Two log cabins stand opposite each other, surrounded by yellow hills stretching to the open horizon. The watchmen are Giannis, who is ever vigilant at his post, and Antonis, who moves to the landscape’s tempo. Their tranquil routine continues undisturbed until an unexpected love arrives, disrupting all that was once certain.

This documentary chronicles the early years of Maria Callas in Greece. Offering a rare and insightful look into Callas’ formative years, the film captures her struggles and triumphs as she hones her craft and faces the challenges that would shape her into a global opera sensation. Mary, Marianna, Maria provides a fascinating exploration of the iconic singer’s rise to stardom and her enduring legacy.

Murderess
Based on the literary masterpiece by Alexandros Papadiamantis, this psychological thriller brings to life one of Greece’s most iconic works of literature. Set in 19th-century Greece, the film follows a desperate woman who, driven by societal and personal pressures, commits unspeakable crimes. As she wrestles with her guilt and fate, Murderess offers a dark and atmospheric portrayal of moral and existential dilemmas, staying true to Papadiamantis’ haunting narrative.

Faces of the Past — Behind the Doors of Patmos — (Bonus short presented prior to feature film by Atlanta filmmaker)
Traveling back in time, this documentary features the historical photographs of Patmos through the eyes of George’s grandfather Theologos Patronis, born in Patmos in 1898. George’s vision for this documentary was to collaborate with his grandfather to bring their generational art forms of time together full circle. As a pianist and composer, George also shares his grandfather’s passion for photography. Combining their photos, faces of the past appear to be peering through the thresholds of the colorful old doors that grace the island, each door with its own story to tell.

An old song from the radio suddenly triggers memories of youth to an elderly ex-army general suffering from dementia, making him momentarily recall the evening of his engagement to his wife. After a telephone call from his old-time friend, a grocer, telling him that his favorite grape variety has finally arrived, a growing urge to reclaim his old freedom and independence makes him secretly escape against the doctor’s warning. An unexpected incident reverses the couple’s fragile daily routine, while unpredictably rekindles the spark of their lifelong flame. Can you ever forget love?

As his infatuation grows, he is forced to confront his buried emotions and unresolved desires. The Last Taxi Driver is a gripping drama that delves into obsession, unfulfilled dreams, and the hidden turmoil beneath a seemingly ordinary life.
