Anamnesis at Michael C. Carlos Museum
A conceptual exhibition focused on memory, recollection, and historical reflection through visual culture.

Anamnesis at the Michael C. Carlos Museum explores themes of memory, recollection, and the ways in which the past is reconstructed through visual culture. Drawing on the concept of anamnesis — the act of remembering or bringing forgotten knowledge back into awareness — the exhibition considers how objects and images function as vessels of memory across time.
Through a range of works, the exhibition examines how personal and collective histories are shaped, preserved, and reinterpreted. Objects on view suggest that memory is not fixed, but continually reshaped through context, narrative, and cultural transmission.
By bringing together materials that engage with remembrance and historical reflection, Anamnesis invites viewers to consider how meaning is constructed through acts of looking, recalling, and reimagining the past.
