The Art of Paper: Selections of Handmade Paper Works from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation at the Zuckerman Museum of Art explores the evolution of handmade paper as a dynamic artistic medium, tracing its development alongside innovations in printmaking and contemporary art practices.

Featuring approximately 65 works, the exhibition highlights key moments in the emergence of hand papermaking as both a technical and conceptual discipline. Works by artists such as Jasper Johns, Mark Bradford, and Glenn Ligon demonstrate how artists have pushed the boundaries of paper beyond its traditional role as a support, transforming it into a primary expressive material.

The exhibition also emphasizes the collaborative relationships between artists and master papermakers, showcasing significant partnerships with leading studios and publishers including Tyler Graphics, Pace Editions, Mixografia, The Brodsky Center, Island Press, and Dieu Donné. Widely recognized as a pioneer in the field, Dieu Donné’s contributions are central to the exhibition, which coincides with the organization’s 50th anniversary.

By examining both historical and contemporary works, The Art of Paper offers insight into the innovation, craftsmanship, and collaboration that continue to shape the field of handmade paper art.
