While WRAS and WREK dominate Atlanta’s college radio consciousness, Emory University’s online WMRE offers another bastion for student-run radio. The decades-old radio station hosts its annual fall concert bash, featuring two exceptional local bands. Originating from Athens, GA, Mothers has enjoyed critical success following the release of its stellar debut, When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired. The quartet twists spidery guitar lines around aching melodies, adding another notch in Athens’ influential musical legacy. Atlanta favorites Shampoo rounds out the bill with a blend of infectious dance rhythms and sentimental pop songcraft.
