From the venue:
Baltimore indie rock duo Wye Oak surprised the world on June 9 with the early digital release of its latest album, Tween (Merge). The new album compiles eight songs recorded between 2011 and 2014 that showcase the band’s gradual progression from serene, guitar-driven indie rock to danceable, synth-fueled soundscapes. The band’s initial approach was driven by singer and guitarist Jenn Wasner’s wistfully haunting vocals and her understated riff-shredding ability. Drummer and synth player Andy Stack has instigated a more commercially friendly approach since 2014’s Shriek, crafting songs that owe more to ’80s film soundtracks than indie or folk traditions.
