Embodied Virtuosity: Dances from Disability Studies

Saturday March 22, 2014 08:00 PM EDT
Cost: Free

From the venue:

Internationally acclaimed contemporary dancer Alice Sheppard will perform two solo dances, accompanied by her lecture presenting the development, history, and theory of disability dance. Sheppard calls into question what we mean by virtuosity when we talk about disabled dancers and dance. Instead of assessing the dancer’s body, she considers the importance of beauty, disability history, and the world of disability arts and culture.
