FU MANCHU, Electric Citizen, Bigfoot

Saturday May 24, 2014 08:00 PM EDT
Cost: $12-$14

From the venue:

Built on thick slabs of fuzzed-out guitar anchored in ’70s-era Black Sabbath, Southern California rock mammoth Fu Manchu’s sound is more versatile and enjoyable than the reductive “stoner-rock” label it’s so often tagged with suggests. Still, the shoe fits. Expect this Sun., May 25, performance to showcase an aggressive brand of hard rock perfected over such sturdy albums as No One Rides for Free, The Action is Go, and this year’s Gigantoid. It’s a deceptively simple aesthetic, juxtaposing short bursts of punk-influenced fury with longer, slower explorations that flirt with prog-rock: disjointed time changes, acid-drenched grooves, and psychedelic atmospherics swaddled in layers of distortion and cement-mixer crunch. Electric Citizen and Bigfoot open.
