CL RECOMMENDS
CL Critic Okla Jones, III Recommends: This current exhibition at Spalding Nix features new work by Beth Lilly, Robert Hightower, Wendell George Brown, Amanda Joy Brown and Shelby Little. The primary focus of Everyday In-Between is balance (both good and bad) of life. While most of us strive for a sense of stability, predictability and connectedness on a daily basis, we live in a constant state of change, distraction and sometimes chaos. The artists in this show explore these unique but often-times common spaces of our everyday life; seeking stability in chaos, predictability in change and connections with strangers and with ourselves, through various mediums. — OJ

From the venue:

EVERYDAY IN-BETWEEN features new work by Beth Lilly, Robert Hightower, Wendell George Brown, Amanda Joy Brown and Shelby Little. While most of us strive for a sense of stability, predictability and connectedness in our lives, we live in a constant state of change, distraction and sometimes chaos - both physically and mentally. The artists in this show explore these liminal or in-between spaces of our everyday life, seeking stability in chaos, predictability in change and connections with the mundane, with strangers and with ourselves.

Beth Lilly’s photo series, “The Seventh Bardo,” (Tibetan term meaning ‘the space in between,’) documents interstate-goers, who on their journey from point A to B, seemingly step outside the confines of time and space, getting lost in contemplation and introspection.
