CL Critic Matthew Warhol Recommends: Your typical venue isn’t capable of housing a SXSTEMparty. Instead, they opt for Village Skatepark, Intrenchment Creek Park, or the Weelaunee Forrest — the location of the ongoing Cop City protests. (The venue for this coming event is listed as 1060 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy N.W., which is the address of The Village Skatepark ATL, but it could be a warehouse next to it for all I know.) The events have gotten so popular that SXSTEM have committed to monthly raves.SXSTEM states their mission is “going above and beyond raves to curate a multi-dimensional experience each month with a new line up of artists and DJs.” Additionally, they are dedicated to creating a safe space for trans and queer people to celebrate and they frequently elevate DJs within the LGBTQ+ community. March’s bill features a variety of DJs from across Atlanta’s musical scenes, including. Babysp1der, Zaida Zane, abd Foie Gramen. -MW

We are developing our previous lineup of DJs and giving each DJ a longer set so we can really immerse ourselves in their style and give them a real chance to express themselves.
Sxstem’s mission to ensure monthly space for queer and trans people to celebrate remains here to stay. Due to the nature of the world we live in, we cannot always count on a single venue, DJ or time to trust this very important mission with. We are committed to finding new spaces and continuing Sxstem Second Saturdays regardless. We reserve the right to change DJ lineups, venues, etc to ensure a safe space for queer people.
