CRITIC’S PICK: Anyone even tangentially involved in Atlanta’s rich music scene over the past four decades knows, and likely respects, Kevn Kinney and his longstanding DNC comrades. The band has flown the flag for gritty, red clay rocking, connecting the dots between edgy country, blues rock, indie sensibilities, and sincere folk since the mid-80s and, regardless of trends, haven’t stopped since. They have enough “Straight to Hell” hits to fill mid-sized venues, at least in the Southeast, and they never phone it in, as their fiery performances always prove. If you’re one of the few who haven’t seen them yet, here is your chance to right that. If you have, it’s always
worth getting yet another dose. — Hal Horowitz

Abe Partridge, the self-proclaimed “Alabama Astronaut,” whose songwriting can be as out of this world as his paintings reflect some deep, dark spiritual warfare, has been added to the bill as opening act. For this show he will be accompanied by The Purdy’s, an additional group of three musicians — Amanda Donald on fiddle and mandolin, Katrina Kolb on upright bass, and provide yet another dimension to his many “sawngs.” — Editor

From the venue:

Atlanta-based folk rock act, Drivin N Cryin, have spent most of their career on tour. In October 1985 Drivin N Cryin played their first show at Atlanta’s famed 688 Club. The band quickly gained attention for their blistering live shows, and amassed a rabid fanbase in the fertile soil of the late-1980s Southeast music scene.

Now, after releasing four full length albums on Island Records and one on Geffen Records, founding members Kevn Kinney and Tim Nielsen find themselves enjoying a milestone anniversary for the band, having survived the pressures of fame, a shifting musical landscape, multiple lineup changes, and miles of back roads and highways to arrive here.
