GSU|PC music faculty, Vicente Della Tonia Jr., joins Chris Tsai to perform a Piano Four-Hand recital.
Praised for his “impeccable interpretation” and “highly refined technique, imagination and musical taste” (Jornal da Cidade Bauru, Brazil), pianist Vicente Della Tonia, Jr. has performed in concert halls throughout Europe, the United States, and his native country, Brazil. Earlier in his career, he received top prize awards in numerous piano competitions, including the XXI Concurso Latino-Americano de Piano Rosa Mística, XX Concurso Nacional de Paulo Giovanini, and the III Concurso Nacional de Piano Maestro Rodrigo Tavares.
An active performer, Vicente has been recently featured as a guest artist at the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series (Chicago, IL), WFMT and WXVS/Wabe public radio stations, Universidade Estadual de São Paulo, Faculdade e Conservatório Souza Lima, Conservatório Baurense (in Brazil), the VII Coloquio do Seminario Permanente de História y Música (Mexico City), as well as a soloist with the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra and with the Perimeter Wind Ensemble (Atlanta, GA). He has been highly involved with the Music Teacher National Association’s national and state conferences presenting lecture recitals in various states such as Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas and Washington.
Vicente received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of South Carolina, where he studied piano under the guidance of Marina Lomazov. He has studied piano under the tutelage of Sonia Rubinsky, Judit Gabòs, Sergio Gallo and Rosa Maria Tolon Marin, important influences in the development of his artistry. Vicente has additional training with Joseph Kalichstein, Tamás Ungár, Yoheved Kaplinsky, John Owings and Joseph Rackers at the “Piano Texas International Academy & Festival” (Fort Worth, Texas) and at the “Burgos International Music Festival” (Burgos, Spain).
Two-time recipient of the Steinway & Sons’s Top Teacher Award of the Year (2017 and 2020), Vicente Della Tonia is Coordinator of Keyboard Studies and Associate Professor of Piano at Georgia State University/Perimeter at Clarkston, where he is the founder and Artistic Director of the PianoFest.

Chris Tsai
Chris was born in Taiwan, she graduated from the Music Department of Soochow University in Taiwan, majoring in piano performance, and studied with German pianist Dr. Rolf-Peter Wille. She later obtained a Master of Music in music education from Taiwan Normal University researching Orff and Kodaly pedagogy. Chris continued studied with Brazil’s great pianist Antonio Barbosa obtained a Master of Music in piano performance from New York University.
While living in Atlanta (1992 -2003), she engaged in the Suzuki Piano method and went to Japan Suzuki Institute to studied with Dr. Kataoka, the founder of the Suzuki Piano method. She also played piano duos in many fundraising benefits concerts with Ms. Barbara Brown. In 2004 Chris moved to New Jersey and taught piano at Montclair State University for eight years.
Chris relocated to Basel Switzerland in 2013- 2015 and taught piano at International School Basel. During her stay in Switzerland, she also joined the local musicians playing chamber music in the concerts. From 2014 to 2016, she held many cello and piano duet performances in Basel, Switzerland with Mr. Jonathan Pesek, a German cellist living in Switzerland. In 2019, Chris held a “Cello and Piano Dialogue” concert tour with cellist Jonathan in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Beijing under the sponsorship of Steinway Piano Company.
Chris moved back to Atlanta in 2020. Currently, she is in the music faculty of the Lanier Technical College and Reformed University.
