CRITIC’S PICK: The Hives, Tabernacle—Who would’ve thought that some of the finest contemporary garage-styled rocking would emerge from Sweden? But that has been the case since The Hives first buzzed onto the scene in 1997. Although they only have six albums, the group’s rollicking, raw, and volatile attack (think The Stooges at their most primitive) has seldom sounded better or more in-your-face than on last year’s The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons release. The quintet takes some inspiration from The Ramones on the throbbing intensity of songs like “The Bomb,” the title of which reflects their explosive attack.
