Rare Birds at The Star Community Bar

CRITIC’S PICK: Rare Birds, Star Bar — While it may defy logic, a good cure for stress might very well be some old-school head-banging and eardrum-popping. The Rare Birds fly somewhere between hard rock and heavy metal, with a growing following and a sound reminiscent of the late 70’s/early 80’s edgy-but-not-too hair bands. Original lyrics and unrelenting energy classify this band, and while there’s nothing fancy about them, what they do, they do well. It’s oddly comforting to be reminded that, sometimes, “The world ain’t no friend to you!” and have that followed by some angry drum pounds and screeching guitar. You might be surprised to find that you leave energized and ready to face another day. – Shannon Marie Tovey
