Our Arts+Culture events have something for all! From our painting classes, poetry, storytelling, festivals, and workshops, we have fun all year round! Arts + Culture Presented by The Home Depot Foundation. Please note all of our weekly programs are held outside.

• Limited spots will be available for each class. If you are not able to attend, please release your tickets to allow others to enjoy. We have a 5-minute grace period before your spot rolls over to those on the waitlist/on-site registration. If advance registration is sold out, we will have limited on-site registration.

Capoeira with Sule Welch

Tuesday, June 18 (6:00 PM - 7:00 PM)

Capoeira was created by enslaved Africans in Brazil. Culture is shared through ritualistic moves often interpreted as a dance because it is performed to music, part of legitimate Capoeira teaching, however the training is rooted in self defense and personal liberation. The lead instrument of Capoeira is the berimbau—a single stringed instrument of African origin with South American counterparts that uses a gourd to amplify the sound. Capoeira is accompanied by a characteristic call and response singing style that preserves its history and tradition. To learn the Afro-Brazilian Art of Capoeira is to appreciate and embrace African culture. Capoeira is a fight for freedom with skills and strategies for simultaneous conformation, liberation and resistance. The game of Capoeira is a microcosm of society where cooperation and conflict are literally inverted. Present day advocates of social justice will benefit from learning an art that is specifically designed to educate and prepare its practitioners for the struggle for justice. There is no age or ability limit for Capoeira training, the only requirement is a willing spirit and an open mind.

FREE Parking is available in the Mercedes-Benz Lot across from Gate 1 on the corner of Northside Dr. and Magnolia St. NW on a first-come, first-serve basis. Additional parking will be available on an hourly basis in the Orange Deck.

Rideshare: Guests are encouraged to arrive at the Vine City MARTA Station and use the crosswalk or pedestrian bridge to walk across Northside Drive to Gate 1.

MARTA: The preferred station for arrival and departure is the Vine City Station. This station will drop you off just across the street from Gate 1 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Use the crosswalk or pedestrian bridge at Northside Drive
