CRITIC’S PICK:AJ Ghent & His Singing Guitar– City Winery. If there is an expressive space between music and vocals, it has to be the resonance of the slide guitar. The most talented of slide players can reach down into your soul and pull up everything sublime. For those unfamiliar with AJ Ghent and his self-described “sacred steel” style of playing, the closest parallel might be the sounds of people like Jeff Beck and Derek Trucks. Ghent’s self-reported mission is to promote healing and wellness through his “singing guitar,” so just to get lost in the celestial sounds and you may find that the rest takes care of itself.
