CRITIC’S PICK: The Mosier Brothers & Friends at Eddie’s Attic — “My brother Johnny and I started our career in 1978 in Atlanta as a bluegrass band in a church group,” replied Jeff Mosier when asked to provide some context for the upcoming Mosier Brothers & Friends concert at Eddie’s Attic. “In 1984, I started a radio show called ‘Born in a Barn’ on WRFG 89.3 FM. From there, I met Colonel Bruce in 1988 and became an original member of the Aquarium Rescue Unit. This led to connections with Phish, teaching them bluegrass, and then starting Blueground Undergrass in 1998.” Mosier described the music played by his band as “a hodgepodge of Bill Monroe, Bruce Hampton and Jerry Garcia with an original singer-songwriter bent.” The lineup for the Eddie’s show is Jeff (banjo, vocals), Johnny (acoustic and electric guitar), Matthew Williams (guitar, vocals), Darren Stanley (drums), Mark Nelson (bass) and Guarav Malhatra (percussion). “We were one of the first bands to play at Eddie’s in the early 90s and this will be our first time returning there as a band in several years,” Mosier said. — Doug DeLoach

The Mosier Brothers live at Eddie’s Attic!

Brothers Jeff and Johnny Mosier have been making music together since they were young, playing and singing at church in their hometown of Bristol, Tennessee. Inspired by their bluegrass pickin’ Grandmother and self taught, on banjo and guitar, respectively, they continued to collaborate and hone their musical skills after moving to Atlanta in the late 60s.
