CRITIC’S PICK: Anna Shinholster’s radiance shines through in songs that are ethereal expressions of simple moments and homespun wisdom. Her songwriting inspiration includes indie-pop bands like Cavetown and Dayglow, and in live performances her originals are balanced with covers of those bands’ alternative-indie-rock predecessors. The Cranberries’ “Linger” and Radiohead’s “Creep” highlight an exceptionally clear and sweet soprano, and when she sings, “Is your honey spilling into my tea?” the answer is “yes.” --Shannon Marie Tovey
