Grammy-nominated vocalist Jazzmeia Horn gazes from her 11th-floor Tokyo hotel room, describing skyscrapers and pink clouds as she prepares for the October 25, 2024 release of “Messages” on Empress Legacy Records. The album, a blend of encouragement and personal reflection, touches on sacrifices and the rewards of pursuing one’s path. Despite the challenges of constant touring, Horn finds inspiration in her relationships, exploring themes of family and love across the album’s 10 original tracks. With a pared-down ensemble and influences from Sun Ra Arkestra, Horn combines traditional jazz roots with contemporary flair, incorporating voicemails and personal narratives into her compositions. “Messages” aims to uplift and resonate, echoing Horn’s journey of artistic growth and personal introspection.
