CRITIC’S PICK: In what promises to be a fabulously fun concert, the Atlanta Balalaika Society orchestra presents “Eastern European Music and Beyond,” a program of old and new songs from Ukraine, Russia, Greece and other lands where the balalaika, along with its progenitors and offspring, are foundational instruments. Special guest artists String Time Duo features Angeleina Galashenkova-Reed on domra and Marina Alexandra on guitar.
Originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, Galashenkova-Reed was formerly with the Andreyev Balalaika Orchestra. In 2001, she moved to the U.S. and currently teaches piano, domra and mandolin in Atlanta where she also is concertmaster of the Atlanta Balalaika Society Orchestra and a member of Balalaika Fantasy ensemble.
Originally from Ukraine, Marina Alexandra is an outstanding fingerstyle, folk and concert guitarist based in Charlotte, NC. Alexandra is also the artistic and executive director of the annual Southern Guitar Festival and Competition.
