CRITIC’S PICK: Morgan Wade, Tabernacle—It seems like yesterday, but it was 2021, when the heavily tattooed Wade came out of nowhere (actually Floyd, Virginia) to emerge as one of country music’s hottest new faces. Those body covering tattoos are an indication of the murkier side of Wade’s Americana. With the release of her third album, she has become a somewhat unlikely star, still on the way up, whose often raw but commercially friendly music balances melancholy lyrics over simmering pedal steel and darker edged melodies.
