From the venue:
It’s been nearly five years since Old Matt Donald’s Farm has performed at the Moonshadow and we couldn’t be more excited to get back to our “home base”! We have some new band members who have helped us to develop our harmonies and tighten up all these songs and we’re thrilled to share this lineup with you! Our debut album, Sing For You will be available as well!
A little history of our group:
Old Matt Donald’s Farm formed in early 2016 as the group evolved out of another band. We played regularly around town and usually about every couple months at the Moonshadow. Members have come and gone, as happens in music, but the core of Matt, Yoshi, Jeff, and Conner remained and we pushed on.
The Farm last played a Mardi Gras event at the Moonshadow in early 2020 right before the pandemic. In the spring of ‘20 Matt was diagnosed with throat cancer and was unable to sing for almost a year. He started writing new songs in 2021 as a way to scratch the musical itch and try to get back his voice. After a year or so of intense vocal retraining Matt had regained his singing voice and recorded a solo demo album at home called No Way Out But Through.
In 2021, with the good news that Matt had beaten throat cancer and was once again cancer free, the Farm got back together to play Jerry Day that fall. Percussionist Ray joined the group and we started rehearsing and selecting songs to record for a band album.
In the spring of 2023 the Farm headed into the studio to start work on our debut album, Sing For You. This 10 song album features new arrangements, a new song and some old favorites as well as new vocal parts that pushed the band in exciting ways. We also added backup vocalist Jennifer to round out the sound.
With the recording finished and as the mix process hit some unexpected delays Jeff, our long time bassist bowed out of the project leaving a big hole to fill. Still we pushed on with substitute bassist, but kept our gigs to Jerry Day and Jerry Jam and a couple private events with modified lineups as we searched for a replacement bassist.
In 2024 we found our new bassist, Stan and the group was suddenly recharged! Everything clicked into place almost instantly and the Farm has never sounded better!
We are so excited about what the future holds and we cannot wait to play for you!
