Maoli

CRITIC’S PICK
Sat., March 29
Maoli, Variety Playhouse—Greet Maoli with a big “aloha” as they come all the way from Hawaii for a rare East Coast appearance. Fronted by singer songwriter Glenn Awong, the band has released nine albums, codifying a comfy country-pop-reggae vibe that can be traced back to a bucolic upbringing in their island locale. They are huge stars in their home state, which, with the help of Internet exposure, will likely result in a large turnout tonight. The music goes down as easy as a Maui brew on a hot summer’s day and the players are accomplished enough to deliver their upbeat, sunshiny vibe with breezy professionalism. — Hal Horowitz
