A Evening with Thurston Moore- Book Talk and Movie Ticket

CRITIC’S PICK: Sonic Youth founder Thurston Moore will be at the Tara Theatre on Dec. 10 for a book signing and discussion sponsored by A Cappella Books about the recently released paperback version of his book, ‘Sonic Life: A Memoir’ (the hardback was published in 2023). Former Creative Loafing music editor and author Chad Radford (‘Atlanta Record Stores: An Oral History’) will guide the discussion.Immediately following the book talk will be a screening of ‘Desolation Center’ (2020), Stuart Swezey’s documentary about the Los Angeles industrial/post-punk music scene in the early Eighties and particularly the DIY Mojave desert concerts, which blazed a path for Burning Man, Lollapalooza and Coachella. The film features performances by Sonic Youth, Minutemen, Meat Puppets, Swans, Redd Kross, Survival Research Laboratories and Einstürzende Neubauten.In addition to being a wickedly talented guitarist and songwriter, Moore is a sharply insightful observer who teaches writing at Allen Ginsberg & Anne Waldman’s Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder. His publishing company, Ecstatic Peace Library, publishes poetry and specialty books about esoteric subjects, such as the emergence of the Norwegian black metal scene and 70s-era avant-garde jazz. – Doug DeLoach
