Rayland Baxter

CRITIC’S PICK
Sat., March 15
Rayland Baxter, City Winery—Those who were initially alerted to Tennessee born and raised singer/songwriter Rayland Baxter through 2025s Imaginary Man, his second album, are in luck. He’ll be revisiting that disc, solo, for this rare performance. He has come a long way from this sound with 2022s If I Were a Butterfly, his most recent release, a sumptuous sonic collage where his folksy pop took on psychedelic overtones. But the easy flowing, melodic songs of his decade old disc remain closer to his initial vision and hearing them stripped down the way they were written is sure to be a treat for fans.— Hal Horowitz

City Winery Atlanta presents Rayland Baxter live on Saturday, March 15th at 8pm!
Rayland Baxter’s fourth album, If I Were a Butterfly, emerged from a year of solitude in a converted rubber-band factory turned studio in Kentucky. Immersed in nature and free from the constraints of traditional production, Baxter allowed the record to unfold organically, drawing inspiration from his surroundings. “I’d see a butterfly or hear a bird, and suddenly a song I’d been working on would make sense,” he recalls. This deeply personal approach led to an album that radiates raw emotion and wonder, blending lush psychedelia with Beatles-esque pop.
