The Nighthawks

CRITIC’S PICK
Fri., Feb. 7
The Nighthawks, Blind Willie’s—If Washington DC’s Nighthawks aren’t the longest lasting blues band still touring, they are certainly in the Top 5. The quartet was “Established in 1972” (as their 2022 album was titled) and have gone through numerous lineup changes in the past 53 (!)years. Frontman/singer/harpist Mark Wenner still leads the blues rocking charge. Better still, the ‘hawks still release new music as 2023s terrific EP shows. Longtime Blind Willie’s patrons have seen them often, but they still deliver the pure blues goods every time. And since Wenner isn’t getting any younger, you’re never sure if this is the last time you’ll get to see them smoke the joint up They are, to coin a cliché, the real deal.— Hal Horowitz
From the venue:
The Nighthawks enter the new year with two new members: Zach Sweeney on guitar and Sol Roots on bass. Drummer Mark Stutso’s still on board with his singing and songwriting that make him an audience favorite. And founder, lead singer and harpmaster Mark Wenner is still at the helm. With some 30 recordings and local and international awards to their credit, The Nighthawks are still churning out new material while drawing on more than four decades’ worth of signature tunes for their legendary live shows. The Nighthawks | 02/07/2025 9:00 PM
