From the venue:
Spike Lee’s provocative and controversial satirical film “Bamboozled” was released in September 2000 and features Damon Wayans, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Savion Glover, Tommy Davidson, Michael Rappaport and the late Paul Mooney, to name a few of the star-studded cast members. The community film screening series, Soul Cinema Sundays, created by writer and spiritual activist Jeannine Etter, aka Queen Jahneen, will feature this new millennium commentary on the American tradition of blackface during its 25 year anniversary, on Sunday, February 16 at 4 pm (doors at 3:15) at the Plaza Theatre. All screenings include a discussion with artists and activists from community organizations working along the movie’s theme. As this film tackles the subject of how black images are depicted on screen, Deidre McDonald, Founding Artistic Director for the BronzeLens Film Festival will be in conversation with Kalonji Changa of Black Power Media, the event’s primary media sponsor.
