CRITIC'S PICK:
Through Sat., Jan. 3
Betsy Cain: Primary, Sandler Hudson Gallery - An expansive salt marsh near Betsy Cain's home in Savannah serves as inspiration for her verdurous oil drawings depicting various stages of growth during the course of springtime. The marshes "have energy and text and light and significance," she told an 'Arts Southeast' reporter. Cain often uses yupo paper, a hardy synthetic material made from polypropylene that is non-porous, acid-free, and waterproof. Her solo show at Sandler Hudson also features works using Black 3.0, one of the darkest pigments on the market. Cain, a stalwart of the Savannah arts scene since the 1980s, has co-founded performative artist groups and curated exhibitions, art forums and lecture series in her adopted city. - Kevin C. Madigan
