The Nighthawks

CRITIC’S PICK
Fri. March 21
The Nighthawks, Blind Willie’s—Often called the “world’s best bar band,” Washington D.C.’s Nighthawks, are far better, more accomplished and creative than what that moniker implies. Fronted by founding singer/harpist Mark Wenner in 1972, their catalog of over a dozen studio albums and as many live ones throughout the decades, is a testament to their veteran status. Most are filled with sharply written, soulful originals sharing space with covers of blues hits and obscurities from their predecessors. Each show is different because of the sheer amount of material they can choose from. That ensures a full house and a typically rollicking show regardless of how often they play this venue. — Hal Horowitz
From the venue:
The Nighthawks enter the new year with two new members: Zach Sweeney on guitar and Sol Roots on bass. Drummer Mark Stutso’s still on board with his singing and songwriting that make him an audience favorite. And founder, lead singer and harpmaster Mark Wenner is still at the helm. With some 30 recordings and local and international awards to their credit, The Nighthawks are still churning out new material while drawing on more than four decades’ worth of signature tunes for their legendary live shows. The Nighthawks | 03/21/2025 9:00 PM
