Jamie McLean Band, Vinyl — The days of guitarist Jamie McLean playing behind the Dirty Dozen Brass Band are so far away, they are barely worth mentioning. His subsequent solo albums though are filled with melodic blues and roots pop-rocking songs that click on initial listen. He boasts a clear, convincing voice and doesn’t bore you with unnecessarily extended noodling. Last year’s One Step Forward was the best of his handful of releases and live he delivers a lot of sound with just a trio. Frustratingly underrated and highly recommended. — Hal Horowitz
