The Cookout: A Fundraiser For Wabe
From the venue:
In celebration of Black culture and WABE’s commitment to authentically amplifying Atlanta’s untold stories, The Cookout is a groundbreaking fundraising event that brings the community together through a vibrant, culturally rich experience. This one-of-a-kind evening blends the joy of Black family reunion traditions—dinner, drinks, and games like spades, Uno, and dominos—with the transformative power of storytelling to support creative public media.
Proceeds from The Cookout will launch WABE’s new fund dedicated to productions centering narratives from communities of color. Attendees will contribute to this mission by participating in recording content exploring the cultural significance of the “cookout,” which will be featured in future WABE broadcasts introducing the fund. Moreover, sponsors and donors supporting at $50,000 and above will earn credits on upcoming projects, cementing their role in shaping impactful programming that resonates with our community.
Goal: The Cookout will aim to raise $175,000 to kickstart the new Camille Russell Love Creators Fund at WABE, named in honor of Atlanta’s revered cultural curator Camille Russell Love.
Proceeds from the evening will seed the fund, which will support the work of Atlanta-based or affiliated creators from underrepresented communities, including Artemus Jenkins’s HOW TO BE A DOPE ARTIST; MY MONEY MENTORS, S2, GROWING UP 404, and more. The Camille Russell Love Creators fund will provide support for the development, production, and marketing of long-form and short-form documentaries, narrative video series, video and audio podcasts, and radio shows.
