Saturday, June 7 meet at the Gazebo in the Stone Mountain Village Visitor Center Parking Lot, 922 Main St, Stone Mountain, GA 30083 at 10 AM for Stone Mountain Action Coalition’s fourth annual Teach Truth Day of Action, part of the Zinn Education Project’s nationwide campaign to defend the freedom to learn. Less than half a mile from the largest Confederate monument in the world, you will learn about and discuss the complex history of Stone Mountain and the adjacent historically Black community of Shermantown.
Speakers include activist Richard Rose, MayorBeverly Jones, the first Black female mayor of the city of Stone Mountain, and Alecia Shipp, daughter of Ralph Shipp, Sr., the first Black member of the Stone Mountain City Council. There will be a discussion, a walking tour of Shermantown, and a book and poster swap.
Please bring your favorite banned book or a book about a largely unknown episode from our past to swap with other participants.
