Athens-based guitarist Shane Parish is bringing Ahleuchatistas, his math-rock trio, to eyedrum for an evening of “pan-tonal poly-metric counterpoint.” Formed in Asheville, NC, in the early aughts, the current Ahleuchatistas lineup includes Parish, Trevor Dunn on bass and Danny Piechocki on drum kit.

Redolent with remarkably intricate, sharply divergent melodies, harmonies and rhythms, Ahleuchatistas’ music mashes up stylistic elements drawn from a cornucopia of folks ranging from Dick Dale, Bach, Yes and The Clash to Varese, Black Sabbath, Carla Bley and Conlon Nancarrow.

The name "Ahleuchatistas" is a portmanteau of "Ah-Leu-Cha," a bebop song by Charlie Parker, and "Zapatistas," the Mexican revolutionary movement — a combo any reasonable person can get behind, if not dance to.

From the venue:

Ahleuchatistas is an avant-rock trio that formed in 2002. They play instrumental music that is meticulously thru-composed and relentlessly paced from beginning to end, morphing through perpetually evolving subtle variations of unfolding poly-tonal melodies that are simultaneously angular and organic. The current lineup is Shane Parish on guitar, Trevor Dunn on bass, and Danny Piechocki on drums.

Josey writes and performs music hoping to help people, to feel comfortable and valuable. Music allows her to communicate to other people how beautiful she thinks the world is, and how complicated it is to accept that beauty in the face of our inhumane times. She uses Reason to make most of her songs on her laptop.
